What is range?

The range of a set of data is the difference between the highest and lowest values in the set.

How to calculate the range average in maths

To calculate the range average of a set of numbers, first order the numbers in the set from least to greatest.

Then, subtract the smallest number from the largest number in the set. The result is the range of the set.

For example, if you have the set of numbers: [4, 2, 9, 5, 8], you would first order them from least to greatest: [2, 4, 5, 8, 9]. Then, you would subtract the smallest number (2) from the largest number (9) to get the range, which is 7.

The range is a measure of how spread out the numbers in a set are. A smaller range indicates that the numbers in the set are closer together, while a larger range indicates that the numbers are more spread out.

It is important to note that range does not tell you about the distribution of values in a dataset, it only gives you an idea about the spread of the data. For example, if you have two datasets, one with range of 1 and the other with range of 100, the latter dataset has much larger spread but it does not necessarily mean that the latter dataset is more dispersed than the former.
